Legion deliver a victory in Major League Rugby home debut
It took less than two minutes for Sione Tu’ihalamaka to score the first home try in San Diego Legion history. It was 10 minutes for Tony Purpura to score the second.
And with that, San Diego’s newest professional sports franchise was off and running.
Or, scrumming if you prefer.
But a funny thing happened on the way to a romp for the Legion in their Major League Rugby home debut: the Utah Warriors stiffened up, and the Legion needed some special second-half play to pull out a 31-24 victory Sunday at Torero Stadium on the campus of USD.
